Having claimed my place among countless CCTV cameras, this series focuses on the subtle expressions and body language of morning bus commuters in the city of Qingdao at the height of a brutal summer, acting as a metaphor for the systematic descent of ordinary citizens into the totalitarian, technocratic netherworld that has come to constitute everyday life in modern China. Alarmingly enough, this fully surveilled super-society, fallen from grace, seems to be a blueprint for what's left of the rapidly eroding West. As always, the devil is in the details.
